One Manchester
PLACED worked alongside One Manchester, Buttress and other partners to deliver community and stakeholder engagement activities on the future of Grey Mare Lane estate. Proposals included improving existing housing, demolition and replacement of homes, the creation of a new community heart and investment into greener and safer spaces.
PLACED ran two phases. Phase 1 ran from September – December 2019 and focused on defining the expectations and programme of meeting with stakeholders, connecting with the local community to keep them informed of developments, and gathering feedback on emerging themes. Phase 2 focused on further exploring and clarifying the priorities identified during the first phase, and translating them into design ideas.
What we did
In Phase 1, we ran a launch event, school workshop, drop in events and an Ed the campervan pop-up. One Manchester also led on a series of 1-2-1 meetings with residents. We asked key questions and gathered general information and there were stalls and activities from local organisations. There were also primary school workshops to engage young people in the future of their neighbourhood,
Outcomes
Engagement was positive overall, people were keen to discuss how plans would directly impact them and their homes. The community heart idea was popular and people were happy to see increased footfall ideas in their local area.
