Love Wavertree

Love Wavertree is a community campaign working with, and for, the people of Wavertree in Liverpool. Love Wavertree co-ordinates community-led activity across the L15 postcode, including regular litter-picks, maintaining local green spaces, community coffee mornings, charitable donation drives and large-scale events.

Love Wavertree wants to involve local people in the future of the area and its emerging plans. In summer 2020, it started working with PLACED to gather the ideas, priorities and suggestions for Wavertree, from those living in the area.

What we did

PLACED developed an online engagement platform during the restrictions imposed by Covid-19. The website was launched in early July 2020. It was designed to enable people to get involved and share their ideas.

There were two primary routes for people to do this; through an ‘Ideas Wall’, which focused on new ideas and suggestions, and an ‘Interactive Map’, which focused more on what currently exists and specific locations for interventions.

We knew the PLACED platform would be another opportunity to further understand what people want locally. The fact it is an independent piece of work, by a social enterprise that knows Wavertree, makes it even more comprehensive in our view.”

Outcomes

This engagement showed that local people are inspired by sustainable living through community-led activities and interventions. They value local traders and produce, want to celebrate their local heritage and have aspirations for diverse activities and retail that bring communities together.

The findings of this website helped Love Wavertree’s conversations about the high street’s recovery post-COVID and development of ideas for a ‘Community Improvement District’.
