Your Place Curriculum
PLACED and Our Place developed a new suite of online educational activities and resources for Primary KS2 and Secondary KS5. The project was funded by Ove Arup Foundation. The resources focus on places and people to support Key Stage 2 programmes of study (English, Maths, Foundation Subjects) and A Level Geography units: ‘Changing Spaces; Making Places’ (OCR), ‘Changing Places’ (AQA) and ‘Shaping Places’ (Edexcel).
PLACED and built environment practioner Amy Harrison from Bristol have worked together to deliver built environment education programmes in the past and share a passion for place-based education for and with children and young people. From their work together, they identified that there is real value in the creation of high quality resources that support built environment education work in schools.
In 2021 we were successful in securing funding from the Ove Arup Foundation for the development of Your Place Curriculum – a suite of educational activities and resources that focus on places and people to support Key Stage 2 and A Level Geography units
Resources will use the context of place and the local area as a tool for learning. The resources and activities link directly to the national curriculum, offering engaging and creative student-led learning that touches on many of the key issues today – from Covid recovery to the climate emergency.
What we did
The website has resources and activities that link directly to the national curriculum, offering engaging and creative student-led learning that is in line with OFSTED’s requirements for cultural capital and support post-Covid 19 recovery. The website operates a crowded market of resources competing for teacher attention, so is accessible, simple and easy to use. It is visually attractive and engaging.
Content includes project introductions, with word documents, slides and PDF documents that can be downloaded. The content has been designed to be a full week of cross-curricular activity. Other resources are 45-1hr long interviews with design professionals which can be watching individually or as a whole set.
