Lydia Connell, Ambassador
Lydia joined Barton Willmore, now Stantec as a Graduate Planner in September 2022 after completing her undergraduate degree in Human Geography and Planning and Masters in Urban Planning.
She has interests in the built environment, especially in terms of urban regeneration and how we can improve the spaces around us for those who use them. This inspired Lydia to research the remaining post-war modernist architecture in Newcastle Upon Tyne, exploring the love-hate relationship within it.
Lydia believes that it’s important to engage with younger generations, as they typically don’t get involved with the built environment, especially within consultation. They will be the ones using these new spaces the longest, and so it’s vital to gain their input. Lydia has volunteered in primary schools and has also been involved in the Birkenhead Market consultation, and brings her planning view to engagement work.
In Lydia’s free time, she loves spending time with her sausage dog Neville, going for long walks (especially long for his little legs!).
